Basil belongs to the Ocimum species derived from the Greek which means to smell. Also called a sacred plant, basil has been used as a medicine since the time of the Phoenicians, who attributed magical properties to it.
In Hindu religions and Ayurvedic practices, holy basil, tulsi, is revered, considered the elixir of life and is used to promote healthy sexual function and an optimistic mood.
Although we love basil essential oil we rarely use it pure. Usually, we enjoy its benefits as part of a synergistic blend supported by other essential oils, but with beware, basil can easily dominate a blend. The compounds extracted from leaves, stems and flowers, after steam distillation, are much stronger and more efficient than those found in dried leaves or even fresh leaves.

How to use
