Lime, better known as Lime (Citrus aurantifolia) is a citrus fruit of the genus Citrus, belonging to the Rutaceae family. It is probably a hybrid between cedar and lemon.

The lime tree can reach 5 meters in height. It has small, round fruits with a thin skin. The fruits are still harvested green, but when ripe they have a yellow-orange color. The pulp has a decidedly sour taste due to the high content of citric acid.

When they are left to mature, they almost completely lose acidity to become yellowish in color and very sweet. The lime is grown mainly for the production of the essential oil obtained from the peel .

Lime essential oil is widely used in aromatherapy as a skin tonic. It has remarkable antibacterial and disinfectant properties that make it a good remedy to combat skin blemishes, in preventing and fighting cellulite thanks to its decongestant action on the circulatory system.
